Electrocatalysis

In general, electrocatalysis refers to the heterogenous catalysis of an electrochemical reaction.  Most often, this reaction occurs at the electrode|electrolyte interface where the electrode acts as both an electron donor and electron acceptor.  Often molecular catalysts are cast onto the surface of an electrode to drive the catalytic process.
