1Electrochemical System
An electrochemical system is a term used to describe a cell, apparatus, or general setup consisting of two or more electrodes
Electrode
spatially separated and distributed throughout one or more ionically-conductive media, or electrolytes,
Electrolyte
while also being in electrical contact with one another via a separate current path (often containing a potentiostat).
Potentiostat
The electrodes in an electrochemical system undergo oxidation
Oxidation
and reduction
Reduction
reactions, with movement of electrons producing current
Current
traveling through the current path simultaneously with movement of ions through the media producing an overall balance of charge transfer within the system.
