This hotplate kit is available for purchase only for customers in the United States and Canada.
Users who prefer to heat the contents of their cell directly should choose an unjacketed OpenTop Cell which is flat bottomed and seats directly on the heating surface of the hotplate. The MSR Rotator base is large enough to accommodate our recommended hotplate with sufficient clearance above to install the cell and RCE accessories.
Hotplates tend to provide a non-uniform temperature gradient; however, the rotating shaft (with turbulent flow) will disrupt the temperature gradient, resulting in a largely uniform cell temperature. Users who cannot tolerate a small residue temperature gradient and need more precise temperature control should instead choose a jacketed OpenTop Cell coupled with a Julabo Water Circulator.

The hotplate (AKHEATER1) is available only for users in the United States and Canada, and requires 110 V input AC voltage. Users outside of the United States and Canada should contact their local rep to select and purchase an appropriate hotplate locally.
The hotplate kit includes a temperature probe thermocouple, a glass thermowell, and a 7mm to 24/25 PTFE adapter. The thermocouple connects to the rear of the hotplate, forming a feedback loop that allows more accurate control of the temperature inside the electrochemical cell. To achieve good thermal contact between the thermocouple and the cell contents, it is recommended to add either water or high boiling-point oil into the thermowell. The hotplate has a ceramic top and maximum surface temperature rating of +300°C.
