1Electrolyte
In an electrochemical system,
Electrochemical System
an electrolyte is a medium existing between two or more electrodes
Electrode
that facilitates connectivity and transfer of ions between all electrodes. The electrolyte typically consists of a fluid solvent (liquid or gas), or alternatively a solid, polymer, or gel, combined with dissolved or distributed cations and/or anions.
More generally, the term electrolyte can be used to describe any fluid containing dissolved ions whether it is related to an electrochemical system or not.
