E9 Series Precision Double RCE Shaft 15 mm Cylinders

Part Number
AFE9MBDA

The E9 Series Double Rotating Cylinder Electrode (RCE) is a unique offering in the market. The shaft, comaptible only with MSR family rotators, accepts two 15 mm OD cylinder inserts (coupons, sold separately). The shaft is unique in that the lower cylinder is in electrical contact with the shaft and rotator, while the upper cylinder can either be connected to the bottom (ring) port of an MSR family rotator or it can remain disconnected, where it is electrically isolated from the shaft. This shaft could be useful to have a redudant cylinder for more data per analysis, but might also be present for simple mass loss experiments at equilibrium conditions. This shaft is often sold as part of a full RCE system for corrosion. This special shaft is intended for use in conjunction with our Gas Purged Bearing Assembly. This bearing assembly is tapered to fit into a standard 24/25 port on an electrochemical cell. Each shaft is shipped with twenty (20) fluoroelastomerwashers which are used to mount and seal the cylinder sample on the shaft. Additional replacement washers are available separately.

Important
Specifications
Maximum Rotation Rate: 4000 RPM

Never exceed maximum rotation rate when working with rotating electrodes.

Assembly Caution Notice

When changing 15.0 mm OD cylinders on this precision shaft, be very careful not to overtighten the PEEK nut onto the end of the shaft. It should only be finger tight when sealing the cylinder between two fluoroelastomer washers. If the nut on the end is overtightened, the washer may bulge and cause leakage of electrolyte into the stainless steel shaft. This can result in severe corrosion and irreparable damage to the shaft and may also affect electrochemical measurements.

Chemical Compatibility Caution Notice

PEEK dissolves with long exposure to concentrated acids.

Tip for Cleaning and Storage

Dummy inserts made from PTFE can also be purchased for general cleaning and storage of 15 mm OD RCE shafts.

Thermal Stability Range: 10°C - 80°C

Electrode damage may occur at temperatures beyond recommended range. This range is provided for electrodes with PEEK shrouds.

Maximum Rotation Rate

All rotating electrodes, including RDE, RRDE, and RCE, have an assigned maximum rotation rate. The maximum rotation rate is specific to each electrode series. Do not exceed the maximum rotation rate when working with rotating electrodes.

Electrode Rotator Compatibility Notice

This product is only compatible with the MSRX (AFMSRX), MSR (AFMSRCE), and MSR evo (AFMSR24) electrode rotators.
