A dummy cell is a network of known resistors, capacitors, and/or inductors that can be used to test or calibrate a potentiostat Potentiostat to ensure that it is working properly.  The dummy cell is used in place of an actual electrochemical system Electrochemical System when troubleshooting a potentiostat because the dummy cell provides a known response, whereas the response from a physical electrochemical system may be complicated by various chemical phenomena.
